To create something special for my wife, this project focused on the design of a custom engagement ring and wedding band set. Initial concepts were modeled in CAD (Onshape) and SLA 3D printed to check shape and fit before proceeding to investment casting in 18 carat yellow gold. A local foundry 3D prints positives in wax with carefully engineered spruing, and can turn around unpolished but otherwise complete castings overnight. Due to the shrinkage gold experiences when cooling and the tight tolerances of jewelry scale, several iterations were required for each ring to get the sizing and features correct. As my first jewelry project, the experience provided great insight into the industry in general as well as the specific manufacturing processes and material constraints and possibilities
