Recovery and modernization of the network infrastructure supporting Burning Man staff operations (AS30321). Following an unannounced engineering transition with no existing documentation or credentials, preliminary efforts focused on remotely accessing, reverse-engineering, and mapping critical core network devices via VPN. An off-season field operation was conducted to audit, physically locate, and reclaim hardware deployed across 20 miles of desert. Subsequent work stabilized and modernized the network environment, incorporating an IPAM and inventory database, redundant upstream ISPs with automated failover, fiber connectivity between critical staff facilities in Gerlach, centralized logging, distributed DNS, and an observability stack built around OpenTelemetry, VictoriaMetrics and Grafana.
